Silent Courage

It's not about knowing
where you are going ..
It's about having the
COURAGE
to go there ...

Trees Undressing

The woods are lovely
   dark and deep ...
The trees are undressing
   getting ready for sleep ...
Soon to be resting
   through winter's travailing ...
Expectantly waiting for
   spring's unveiling ...

This One's For You Randy

In the fall of 2008.. I purchased my very first digital SLR camera. It was a Nikon D60 and this image I've posted is one of the very first captures . I was a newbie to the digital world so I dialed in my settings and fired away hoping that I would get a keeper. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and found this image. I was just learning how to do edits as well... so all I did  was saturate the color. As they say in the photography world ... this is straight out of the camera.

When I decided to embark into the world wide web and try to sell my photos .. I joined a
photo website and up-loaded my best shots.  I received  a lot of wonderful comments and made a few  "photog friends" .  One of these friends told me that this photo was one of his favorite photographs and I will always remember the positive comments he made.  We're still friends today and I'm posting this for him . And oh ..by the way .. I still have the D60 :)

Perspective

On the road of true discovery ....  one should not go about seeking new landscapes ... but rather... develop " new eyes " in which to see...

Summer Evening

Lazy summer evenings ... drifting away ... into the crimson season of Autumn...

There's nothing more relaxing than spending a quiet evening on the lake. As the sun began to set and
the cool evening breeze rustled through the trees... I became very aware of just how close the fall season is upon us. I'm not quite ready to give up summer so I decided to stay a little longer and shoot a couple of sunset photographs and while doing so... I saw out of the corner of my eye... a pontoon boat slowly making it's way across the lake. I realized that the boat was going to cross the path of the sun's reflection .. so I waited .. and waited...
Photographers are pretty good at that ya know.. and then took my shot. In fact.. I took a lot of shots !
Photographers do that too (smile)

Just remember .. as we go through the change of seasons ..  slow down and enjoy ... do what you love to do ...and even for just a little while ...do something each day that makes you smile.

The General's House

HOME ... is the place where you'll find one day .. that your soul finds rest and your heart will stay ...

My husband and I attended my Durham family reunion at the General Butler State Historic Park in Carrollton, Kentucky. During our stay,  we had the opportunity to visit the Butler home and learn a little history about the Butler family.
This homestead which is called " Butler Hill " and consists of 124 acres, lies at the confluence of the Ohio and Kentucky Rivers. The view from the front of the house overlooks the beautiful Kentucky River valley.  The original house was a two-story log cabin built in 1790 by General Percival Pierce Butler and his wife Mildred Hawkins Butler. They raised five sons and five daughters on this farm and all are buried in the family graveyard which is just a short walk down the hill from the house.
In 1859, Percival's son, Thomas Langford Butler replaced the log cabin with this brick home shown in the photo above. The homestead remained in the Butler family for many generations and in 1931 became a state historic park and the house is open to the public.

The View from My Front Porch

Sitting out on the front porch was my mother's favorite thing to do. Every evening she would have her coffee and dessert and enjoy the cool evening breeze... Today would have been my mother's 90th birthday. She's been gone a long time now .. since January of 1985 and I've decided to start a blog in memory of her. After all .. she is the one who taught me to see and appreciate every little thing this old world has to offer

This is the view from MY front porch ... Happy Birthday Mommy !
